In anticipation of the National Space Strategy, Ian Annett, Deputy CEO for Programme Delivery at UK Space Agency, talked us through his vision for UK space and the possible constraints of our ambitions. As a student of grand strategy, Ian broke down his analysis into three key components, the ends, ways and means. For Ian, if we are to be successful in using space as a lever of national power then it is crucial that the balance across these components is maintained. In his analysis, he touched on four key areas, resilient national capabilities, economic growth on a competitive global stage, the UK’s strength in research and, lastly, the importance of having a global voice alongside international collaboration.
