It was a pleasure to welcome Kerry McCarthy MP, the Shadow Minister for Transport. In outlining Labour’s vision for transport, Kerry took us through where we are now, the short-term interventions required to assist the sector and what Labour believes the necessary longer term transformational changes to be. In what is obviously a difficult time for transport, Kerry welcomed the support provided for the rail sector, but queried why similarly generous packages had not been offered to airlines and bus networks. Her broad message was that more urgency is required from initiatives such as the Jet Zero Council and the long-delayed transport decarbonisation whitepaper, while she was also very keen to hear from Members on their views regarding policy priorities, reiterating something we have heard in the past from Shadow Cabinet Ministers here at The D Group, that the Labour Party is keen to work with Business and is open to new ideas.
