In his opening remarks, Sir John Armitt CBE, Chairman of the National Infrastructure Commission, focused on a recently published report by the NIC on Behaviour Change and Infrastructure Beyond Covid-19. The report’s approach was to develop a set of scenarios that reflect different combinations of possible behavioural trends that could impact infrastructure use patterns. The findings suggested that, even in the most extreme scenario, transport was the only type of infrastructure likely to be affected. However, despite any long-term effects of the pandemic, it is important not to overreact but rather prepare to change and adapt. In the last part of his analysis, Sir John also touched on the importance of data and technology in the sector especially with regards to decision making.
